One day dry, one day wet - but it didn't seem to marr the enjoyment of this weekend break with Marian & Pam.

Short but sweet - 3 days walking from Glenthorne in Grasmere. We had a lot of fun and repeatedly much better weather than was forecast!

They couldn't have asked for better weather! Ellie and Marcelle led some cracking walks at both levels - up to and including Scafell Pike (with Chardonnay at the top due to a book launch taking place there)...!!




Keswick/Derwent Water

Soaking in the view beside Derwentwater.Gentle Derwentwater 1-5 Aug
4 wonderful days with Sally exploring the beautiful gentle walks around Derwentwater, from lake shore paths to Watendlath, and Castlerigg Stone Circle. The weather ranged from heavy showers to glorious sunshine and blue skies... and they even went to the Theatre by the Lake on one night!


Borrowdale

Mixed weather over Bank Holiday, but this gentle group with Heather P made the most of it with a lovely selection of walks in Borrowdale and Buttermere.

This first WW break at our new venue in the Newlands Valley, Littletown Farm, proved a great success. The women the accommodation (and food) at the farm, the weather was dry and sunny, and Beryl chose some fabulous walks...

Long Distance Coast to Coast 29 Jul-13 Aug
This group took on Wainwright's Coast to Coast route, walking with Diane P from the West coast at St Bees to the East coast at Robin Hoods Bay... A great undertaking - sometimes in very mixed weather!

Beautiful and varied Northumberland walks with Pam, staying at Rothbury in the Cheviot valley of Coquetdale. The views from Simonside were exceptional.

Here are the photos from Pam's Hadrians Wall holiday last August - with some wonderful views of the Wall and the Northumberland countryside beyond. They all seemed to have a great time!

Walking beside Malham Tarn - day 1.Gentle & Intermediate Malham 24-28 May
A great holiday by all accounts with Anita and new guide Helen. The weather was mixed with quite a cold wind for much of the time, but they had some fabulous walks and views - and a great deal of laughter!

We had an amazing 4 days staying at lovely High Trenhouse - without a drop of rain! High Trenhouse hospitality was as excellent as ever.


Peak District

Castleton - Losehill Hall

Walking along the Edges.Easy Access Gentle Peak District 21-25 March
The first holiday of this grade - gentler than the normal Gentle grade, with virtually no gradient, no stiles, and 3-4 mile walks.... based at Losehill Hall in Derbyshire.


Walking up Cavedale.Gentle Peak District 16-20 August
A wonderful four days with Jo staying at Losehill Hall in the Peak District - lovely gentle walks and good cameraderie...


Setting off for Hope Cross.Gentle Peak District 4-8 October
Fabulous sunny weather for this extra, Gentle Peak District break that we added to the programme late on. They had some wonderful walks, guided by Sally.




Walking down into Edale.Intermediate Peak District 10-14 Feb
Mixed weather in the Peaks, with snow remaining on the tops from the big snowfall of early Feb. However there was always the warmth and comfort of Losehill Hall to return to after walking... and sumptuous puddings too!



Setting off from Edale.Intermediate Peak District 24-28 May
Spring Bank holiday in the Peaks started fine but windy, and finished with wet weather. However had a great time walking with Yvonne - and probably ate too many Losehill Hall delicious desserts...!

A lovely dry w/e enjoying walks in and near Dovedale in Derbyshire with Jo M. This w/e break was based at 4* Hartington Hall youth hostel - a beautiful converted mansion set in its own grounds.

Some lovely weather and views apart from one wet day - and even then it brightened in the afternoon for fab views of Durdle Door! Everyone seems to have had a lovely time.

Brecqhou Island from Sark - day 4Low Int Channel Islands 29 Mar-4 Apr
Despite a cancelled outgoing ferry due to rough weather, we had a brilliant holiday. We saw the sun everyday, the walks were stunning, and the spring flowers were coming out... Definitely to be repeated next year in April & May!

Fine weather, spring flowers, and wonderful Somerset walks and views in the Quantock Hills. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed staying at Huntstile Organic Farm - where the food was delicious...


St Ives

A wonderful holiday run by Sheila in Cornwall, staying at the comfortable Chy-an-Albany Hotel overlooking St Ives. Fabulous coast path walks on both the north and south coast of the penninsula, and they had superb weather too!

Anita had taken over last minute from Lorraine last minute as guide for this holiday. They had only one, partially wet day, and never lost the views - which were absolutely inspirational on the last day...

Mixed weather for this first Cumbria Way trip with Diane P - but they had a great time walking from the very south of the Lake District north to Carlisle and saw some superb scenery...





Red Tarn  from Helvellyn.Intermediate & Slow High Patterdale 4-7 May
Stunning weather and views for part of this w/e - on Striding Edge and Helvellyn, or Place Fell. After that, not even the wetter weather that followed could dampen their spirits!

An excellent trek from Borrowdale to Wasdale with Sue P, spending 3 nights in Wasdale to allow a day on Pillar and Scafell Pike. The weather stayed mostly dry, except for rain, hail and stong winds on Scafell Pike - Sods law!

Mostly lovely winter sunshine during this gentle break with Jo in Wharfedale. They had a great time - and even went out to a pantomime one evening...!


Walking the Seven Sisters in a blustery wind - Day 1.Long Dist South Downs Way - part 1, 12-17 April
There was much blustery wind along this first half of the South Downs Way held over Easter - but the weather stayed mostly fine (if sometimes misty) and they had some fine views, great walking, and, it seems, a very good time.

Climbing Old Winchester Hill.3-8 Oct Long Dist. South Downs Way, Part 2
This trip tackled the second half of the South Downs Way with Lorraine - from Steyning to Winchester. Apart from one wet day they had some fabulous weather and views...

A great week in the north west of Wales walking the beautiful Llyn Peninsula - sparking sea, views to the mountains, hill forts, pilgrim churches, and only one wet day!

The weather wasn't always kind to this year's Black Sail Trek with Diane P & Sylvia, but they had a great stay at this very special little remote youth hostel, and achieved all the intended summits!

A wonderful intermediate holiday with Fran exploring Scotland's first National Park - the Trossachs. Fine weather over all - and some stunning views! Staying at the comfortable East Mains B&B in Callander.

A high level trek from Elterwater to Coniston Coppermines over Wetherlam, and then to Great Langdale over Coniston Old Man (or the 'Crone of Coniston'). The weather was mostly stunning!

Wastwater from Scafell.High Level Eskdale Trek 18-24 August
A trek with Pammy and Sue B experiencing a wide range of weather - from the most sublime sunshine to wind and heavy rain. However, they climbed Scafell in glorious sunshine, Eskdale was delightfully quiet, and spirits stayed high throughout.




Ill Bell & Froswick from Shipman Knotts - the other side of the horseshoe. High Level Kentmere Trek 14-18 April
We had great weather for this first trek to Kentmere, with superb views from the Kentmere Horseshoe, High Street, and then Stony Cove Pike on our way home. Definitely a trek to be repeated next year! Guided by Diana & Sarah.


Walking down to Loughrigg Tarn - Day 3.Gentle Elterwater 18-21 February
A lovely sunny break exploring the pretty valleys of Little and Great Langdale from the new WalkingWomen venue of the Eltermere Hotel - with Sarah.

Some fabulous walking in Kerry's mountains - including a superb day on Carrantouhill. The weather wasn't always brilliant, but they had a great time - and swam with Funghi the dolphin in Dingle Bay!

A tough but fabulous trek along the Salkantay and Inca Trails to Machu Picchu with Marian and local guide Sylvia. They saw many Inca sites - with great visibility at MP itself, an Andean fox, condors, exotic flowers, and lots of local colour....

A good strong group this year for these challenging walks in the superb Rila and Pirin mountains of Bulgaria. Wonderful local guides much appreciated by group for their culture and enthusiasm... (This holiday will be Slow High & High Alpine next year).

A holiday packed with experiences from walking in the Drakensberg mountains to Africa's oldest game reserve. Sleeping in caves... chain ladders to the Amphitheatre... close encounter with an elephant...






Skiing before the thaw - week 2.XC Skiing, Norway - week 2, 19-26 Feb
This second XC Skiing week had all the sun - so much so that they had to take to snowshoes when the ski tracks became too icy. However, they still had a great time in the snow.

Finally - apologies for the delay - here are the wonderful photos from the 2005 Langtang trip with Pammy. Snow capped mountains, high views, little villages... Freak snow conditions at Gosainkund meant they had to revise their itinerary to give extra time at Nagakot - but a great time was had by all!

Mont Blanc.High Alpine Tour du Mont Blanc 10-23 Aug
A very successful trip despite some horrendously wet weather towards the end (when Switzerland & Germany were flooding). The group had a great time none the less. (This is the last TMB holiday we are doing for a while).

Teide from Las Canadas.Intermediate Tenerife 27 May-3 June
A stunning first holiday with Marian in Tenerife with wonderful weather, beautiful flowers and views, and an amazing volcanic landscape. We'll definitely be going there again next year!

A week with gentle and low intermediate walks in the valley and hills around Skala Eressos, with plenty of time for the beach. Always a popular holiday especially at this time of year!

A gentle walking holiday in Greece with Diana - staying in Vatera on the south coast of Lesvos: sun, sea, olive groves, pines, and walks to interesting places!






Pinacles on the way up Gingilos - day 2.High Crete Trek 1-8 June
A trek into the White Mountains of Crete, and then down the Samarian Gorge and along the coast to Hora Sfakion. We had a fabulous time and some really exciting walks! (with Diana)





Ringed by distant Alps.Easter in Piedmont 30 Mar-5 April
A repeat of 2 very successful holidays in Bergolo last year - this time at Easter. Spring is happening very late here after a hard winter, but the weather now is glorious!

Walking on Bugarach - day 5.Intermediate Langue D'Oc 23-30 October
A week walking amongst the autumnal vineyards and wooded slopes of the Langue D'Oc and Corbieres region of France, visiting Cathar castles .....and eating too much good food!

A week staying in a characterful old house in Cassis to access the stunning walks of the Calanques region of France: sunshine, white rock, turquoise sea, and wonderful green aleppo pines!

A second lovely week with Heidi and Yvonne - enjoying gentle or low intermediate walks beside beside lakes, and through the gorges and meadows of Bavaria.


Climbing Devils Peak above Cape Town.High Level Southern Africa 8-22 June
An extraordinarily full trip - from Cape Town comfort to a stunning wilderness trek through the Cederberg (not the Fish River Canyon, in the end, due to lack of rain in Namibia). We visited Robben Island, several black townships, District 6, and great heard marimba music; we were invited out for dinner, stood on the Cape of Good Hope, saw leopard prints, climbed through the Wolfberg Cracks, and much much more...!


Punto da Sao LaurencoIntermediate Madeira 19-26 April
An intermediate week in Madeira sampling the full variety of walks that this beautiful island has to offer - and a greater variety of weather than normal in April!
