|
After dinner we ventured out for a short walk to the end of the road but returned hurriedly due to a heavy shower. |
26th August
|
![]() ![]() We walked besides the river Derwent enjoying the river and woods. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Along the way we saw evidence of the floods that had affected Borrowdale the previous few days.
After lunch by the river and a welcome cup of tea at Grange in Borrowdale all the women opted to walk back to Stonethwaite rather than take the bus. ![]() |
27th August
|
![]() The women enjoyed the excitement of using the chains to cross rocks above the river. ![]() From Seatoller we took another small road and path to Seathwaite having our lunch beside the river. ![]() ![]() ![]() We all admired Sour Milk Gill waterfalls and then took the path to Stockley Bridge. ![]() ![]() Returning to Seathwaite we enjoyed tea and cakes returning to Stonethwaite via the Allerdale Ramble and Strands Bridge. |
28th August
|
![]() We took the bus to Grange in Borrowdale from where we walked along the Allerdale Ramble along the west shore of Derwentwater to Nichol End. ![]() ![]() ![]() From there we took the launch anti-clockwise around the lake to Keswick. ![]() The journey was rather wet due to the high winds, rain and white horse breakers on the water. Hot drinks, soup, cake and scones were welcomed in Keswick with some women opting for Retail Therapy in Keswick, returning to Stonethwaite by bus while others walked along the east shore of Derwentwater to Lodore from where they caught to bus back to Stonethwaite. For dinner Lemon Meringue Pie had been requested and Norma did not disappoint us and most of the women enjoyed the pudding. It was delicious! |
29th August
|
![]() ![]() We all enjoyed the scenery and on arrival at Buttermere set off to walk round the lake. ![]() The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed looking at the high mountains, ancient woods and lake. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ice-Cream was enjoyed by some women at Gates Garth and then in Buttermere more tea, cake and ice- cream was consumed while watching the Bank Holiday crowds and waiting for the bus. ![]() Again we just managed to squeeze on and had to hold our breath as the bus struggled to get up the steep Honister Pass. ![]() At Langstrath the sun was still shining so we all enjoyed some refreshments in the garden. ![]() |
30th August
|
![]() ![]() However most women were anticipating the return from the holiday, so we decided to shorten the walk and instead passed some quiet time by the beautiful river, paddling, talking and just sitting quietly. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sadly it was time to say goodbye. Some women left from the Langstrath; others travelled together to Penrith Station and said their final goodbyes there. |
Women's Feedback
"Really enjoyed the holiday - the scenery was incredible - I had not previously visited the Lake District. The group was fun and there was always someone to talk to and somewhere to go if you needed space. Thanks to Heather and WW for a good break."
"I really enjoyed the trip and the walks exceeded my expectations. The planning was top notch and the variety excellent. The accommodation, especially the food, at the Inn was really good. Heather is a wonderful guide who looked after us brilliantly and made sure things went well. I had lots of good laughs in the company of some really nice people".
"I enjoyed the holiday and it was better than I expected - I liked the Lake District a lot and more than I expected. The accommodation was good, clean and comfortable. The walks were fun and varied".
"I really enjoyed the walking holiday and meeting new people. I thought it was good although the weather could have been better. I especially enjoyed the boat ride and all the meals".
"I enjoyed the holiday, it met up to my expectations and I experienced no problems"
"Brilliant! First time I have done this and I was very nervous coming. But very soon I was made to feel very welcome by the group who offered invaluable support when I was feeling very low one evening. It was way above my expectations even though I had some problems with my legs, everyone was very supportive and encouraging. I will definitely book whatever and whenever I can!"
"This was my second trip with WW and it had a hard act to follow as my first to Bavaria last year was marvellous. In spite of daily rain and getting ill on the last day, I still managed to have a great time. The walks and scenery were great, the guide was excellent and the company was good." Eileen
"I really enjoyed the holiday. The arrangements were excellent. I met some wonderful women whose paths would never otherwise have crossed with mine and the walking was great. It boosted my confidence to try a harder grade next time. This time, the opportunity to relax and 'drink in' the scenery was just what my soul needed!" Margaret
"This was my third WW holiday and again I had a very good time and found it a refreshing experience. I enjoyed meeting a very diverse group of women and hearing about their lives, past and present. I also liked seeing a new part of the English countryside and soaking in the scenery and atmosphere - as well as the typical English rain! In the evenings we had many a laugh especially when Trivial Pursuit was produced. We had an inspired idea of forming a WW team for University Challenge or maybe not!!" Rosemary
