Earnley Concourse center is located close to Chichester within easy reach of the South Downs and the coast. Earnley is a great new WW venue - offering plenty of comfortable ensuite singles (£10 a night ensuite single supplement), a good sized lounge, beautiful grounds, and even an indoor heated swimming pool! From here we will have transport to walk through the fantastic ancient yew trees of Kingley Vale and up onto the Downs for superb views across Chichester harbour to the sea. We can also visit Bosham Harbour which dates back to Saxon and medieval times, seeing waders and waterbirds aplenty as we walk around the Harbour to Itchenor. On Friday there can be an extra afternoon walk if you can arrive by 1pm - along the coast to Pagham, or towards the Roman walls and cathedral of Chichester. The Gower Peninsula was the first area in Wales to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Lying between Swansea and Carmarthen Bays, the Gower's southern coastline includes magnificent limestone cliffs interspersed with sandy bays, and offers some of the most stunning coastal scenery in Britain. This holiday with Gaynor offers Low Intermediate walks and is based at the Worms Head Hotel overlooking the sea from Rhossili village. We have reserved plenty of ensuite single rooms - all with sea views! From here we can walk straight out onto the cliffs overlooking the striking Worms Head causeway, then on to pretty Mewslade Bay before extending our circuit inland for some fine views back to the coast. On other days we can walk further along the coast and in the other direction, and we will sometimes head up onto the higher Downs for lovely views - to Cefyn Bryn cairns, Great Tor, and Penmaen Burrows. This holiday is priced on a part board basis including breakfast and packed lunches. In the evening we can eat at the hotel or stroll out to eat at a bistro in the village. The nearest train station to Rhossili is Swansea, 18 miles away with good bus connections to near the hotel. Parking at the car park adjacent to the hotel costs £2 a day. A unique walking holiday exploring the Turkish coast and staying in ensuite twin or single cabins on a traditional, crewed sailing yacht ('gulet'). Over the holiday we will journey between Marmaris and Fethiye, sometimes cruising, but usually walking to the next rendezvous point along forested tracks and quiet lanes with views to the mountains, the woods, or out over the islands along this lovely coast. The walks will vary to suit the terrain, averaging low intermediate in grade with one steeper ascent. Walking to the Caunos ruins, we will catch a river boat up the Dalyan river to the mud baths and Caunos tombs, while on other days there may be 2 shorter walks - to take in Cleopatra's Bath, other Roman ruins and tombs, or the sunset from Yassica Island. On the last day there can be an optional excursion to view the amazing Saklikent Gorge and the ruins of Tlos - or you might prefer a relaxing day on the boat, swimming from a nearby beach or visiting the local hammam for a Turkish bath. The holiday is priced on a full board basis with the most delicious meals served on deck in the evening.

This exciting new holiday with Anita and Helen involves a 5 night trek through the extraordinary scenery and rocky terrain of the Sinai Desert and its mountains. The Sinai is an arid Biblical landscape dotted with secret Bedouin gardens. There are high mountain passes to cross including some scrambles at High Level, and steep rocky ground at times even along the High Intermediate route. We will walk in the company of knowledgeable and friendly Bedouin guides and their camels. We will sleep beneath the stars and eat freshly prepared meals around cosy campfires. The High level walks will ascend mountains, including Mt St Katherines (2629m), and finally Mt Sinai (2285m), whilst the High Intermediate walks will follow stunning but demanding trade routes from oasis to oasis. On one day we will follow Wadi Talaa, a steep lush valley with many interconnecting pools, including the famous blue pool of Galt El Azraq, with streams of water disappearing and resurfacing further down the valley. Everybody meets up each evening, so you can keep your options open and swap grades from day to day if you wish. At the start of the holiday there will be a chance to visit St. Katherines Monastery and prepare for out trek. After the trek, we will enjoy 2 nights in the chilled out beach resort of Dahab on the gulf of Aquaba where the snorkling is truly stunning. (Snorkling gear can be hired inexpensively from the where we stay). Here we have reserved ensuite twin and single rooms, all with fans or air conditioning, some with balconies (Single supplement here is £10-£15 a night). There will also be a feast included on the last night to celebrate! For our other meals here we'll stroll out to enjoy the atmosphere of the many little eating places along the front (not included but inexpensive). There are scuba diving and wind-surfing schools for the more adventurous - a perfect contrast to the ultimate desert experience! (Day pack only - your luggage is transported for you by camels).

This new short break is based at the Castle & Ball hotel in the attractive town of Marlborough offering Low Intermediate length walks from Avebury and onto the Marlborough Downs. We'll see Avebury's striking 5000 year old stone circle which has been designated a World Heritage Site, and walk down West Kennet Avenue - an avenue of standing stones leading to the Sanctuary. We will also see fascinating Silbury Hill on our way to West Kennet Long Barrow - an ancient burial chamber that we can enter. On the last day we can head up onto the lovely beautiful Marlborough Downs or walk over Fyfield Down with its numerous Sarsen stones and stunning views. Hebden House nestles on the side of the hill above the old mill town of Hebden Bridge in the South Pennines - an ideal base from which to explore the hills and valleys of Bronte country with Brenda. Our walks will take us up through spectacular wooded valleys and along old packhorse routes onto the less-trodden moorlands of the Pennine watershed. Here we might hear curlews and lapwings, and our views will stretch as far as Pendle Hill in the north, and Blackstone Edge in the south. We can visit the unspoilt hilltop village of Heptonstall where Sylvia Plath is buried, and walk the cobbled streets of Haworth where the Bronte sisters lived. Hebden House is under new management this year and offers simple but very affordable ensuite twin rooms that we can take as singles without a supplement. Brenda will provide packed lunch supplies each day, and in the evening we'll go out to eat together at local restaurants. We are including these restaurant evening meals in the price. The centre has a large attractive lounge looking out onto a sheltered patio. Hebden House is easy to reach by car, and Hebden station is less than 5 mins taxi ride away.

Within easy reach of the South, the Cotswolds is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with sleepy villages built of mellow Cotswold stone, and rolling hills full of delightful low level walks. This weekend break with Barbara H is based at the very comfortable and friendly Cleeve Hill Hotel which lies only 100 yards from the Cotswold Way at Cleeve Hill and shares the same superb vantage point. From here we can make a wide meandering circuit of Cleeve Hill with views in all directions, or there's a lovely walk from the un-spoilt village of Winchcoombe, stopping to see the wonderful gardens at Sudeley Castle. There can also be an extra walk on Friday afternoon if you can arrive by 1pm. Cleeve Hill Hotel is beautifully decorated with lovely ensuite rooms - mainly doubles that we can take as singles, and two attractive and spacious twin rooms with very good views. Delicious breakfasts are served in the light and airy conservatory, and in the evening we can eat at the hotel, or stroll out to sample good eating places in the village. The incredible experience of trekking in Nepal need not be purely for high level walkers. The Hindu and Buddhist temples of Kathmandu, the amazing medieval city of Baktapur, the serenity of Phewa Tal ('Fish Tail Lake') in Pokhara, and the breath taking views of the Himalaya are all features of this intermediate holiday to Nepal - including a 6-day circular trek to Gorapani in the Annapurna region. At Gorapani, weather permitting, we'll climb Poon Hill and watch the sun rise over the magnificent Annapurna range. There'll be bamboo forests and huge rhododendron trees in flower, monkeys in the trees, steep stone steps that we'll take as slowly as we need, and little villages dotting the terraced hillsides where we'll stop for tea. While staying at Pokhara before the trek, we will have a warm-up walk to Sunrise View at Sarankot, and maybe cross the lake by boat to climb to the Peace Temple for another special view of the mountains. The walks on this holiday are to the full limit of Intermediate, and on one trekking day we will be walking uphill slowly and steadily for 6 hours. Our accommodation over this holiday will vary from 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara to simple tea houses on the trek (basic accommodation with clean rooms and filtered water. Some have squat toilets). Luggage is transported for you - you carry a day pack only.

The Cotswolds have proved very sought after, so here is a new gentle Cotswolds weekend at Frampton Mansell close to Cirencester based at The Crown Inn. The long Northumberland Coast has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - mile upon mile of almost deserted sands, traditional seaside towns, historic castles, and rolling surf… This new WW holiday is based at Bamburgh, once home to heroine Grace Darling, and overlooked by magnificent 11th century Bamburgh Castle. Our walks will take us along the coast in each direction - to Seahouses with its harbour, lifeboat station, and many small cafes; and to Budle Bay returning over the dunes behind Budle Point. On one day we'll take the bus to Embleton and head for Craster, famous for its kippers, and walk back past the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. We will also walk on Holy Island, otherwise known as Lindisfarne, crossing the causeway at low tide and being sure to return before the tide rises! This holiday with Pam is based at Sunningdale Hotel in Bamburgh - a friendly, family-owned hotel with a good number of ensuite single rooms available. The peaceful Quantock Hills in Somerset were the first area in England to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Standing above the Vale of Taunton, they afford far-reaching views across nine counties and over the Bristol Channel to the Welsh hills. Our walks will explore lesser known routes over moorland hilltops and through quiet wooded combes full of autumn colour where we might see ponies, badgers, buzzards, and red deer. We will be based at Huntstile Organic Farm on the outskirts of Goathurst village - a 14th century farmhouse that has its own stone circle, a spring-fed lake, and woods to explore. In addition to the farmhouse we will have the use of the Apple Loft, the Cider House, the Studio, the Summerhouse - delightfully converted outbuildings offering a range of ensuite twins, ensuite and standard singles. In the evening Lizzie will cook us delicious dinners. Lizzie and John grow many of their own vegetables. They have a small herd of cattle, and "a flock of organic chickens that lay the most delicious free-range eggs in the world (probably)!" Goatshurst village is easy to reach from the M5 or by taxi from either Bridgwater Station (5 miles) or Taunton station (9 miles).

The Shropshire hills invite exploration: the Long Mynd, Ragleth, Caer Caradoc, the Stiperstones - wonderful names steeped in history, all with far-reaching views towards the Brewyn Hills or the Welsh Mountains. This autumn Gentle Derbyshire break with Barbara B is based at comfortable Losehill Hall near Castleton where the landscapes of the White and the Dark Peak meet. Losehill Hall is a lovely old Victorian mansion set in its own extensive grounds 10 mins walk from Castleton village, and all the rooms we've reserved here are small ensuite singles without a supplement. Losehill Hall is the National Peak Park Study Centre, run on eco-centre lines (everything is recycled, ensuite showers instead of baths, communal tea/coffee facilities…). The Hall has a good bar, a comfortable lounge, and the food served in the dining room is excellent. From here there are lovely gentle walks to explore - beside the river to Hope with views across Hope Valley, or into fascinating Cavedale, maybe including a visit to the unique Blue John cavern. On one day we can take the bus to walk in Edale, or we might want to stretch ourselves for the fabulous views from Mam Tor by taking a gently ascending route onto this stunning broad ridge.

This holiday with Anne offers fabulous High Intermediate walks on the Grasmere fells when the Lakes will be full of autumn colour. We could start with the Helm Crag ridge for its superb views back over Grasmere and a lovely broad ridge walk to follow. Walking up past Easedale Tarn to Sargeant man we'll gain dramatic views of the Langdale Pikes before we return along dragon-backed Blea Rigg. On other days we could stretch ourselves to reach the summit of Fairfield direct from Grasmere, returning over Heron Pike with all of Grasmere and Rydal below us; or we could drive around to neighbouring Great Langdale for a fabulous day on the Langdale Pikes. As usual on Grasmere holidays we'll be based at Glenthorne Guest House with its comfortable rooms and very good food - always a favourite!

Have you ever wished for more confident map reading skills? Here is a holiday that will give you the skills to keep you safe in the hills - and what could be more fun than to learn them with other women. On these 2 holidays there will be 2 guides to cater for different levels of map reading experience. One group will start from basics with Gentle walks and work up to using compasses - leaving with a secure sense of how to find your way using a walking map, and how to find out where you are (and where you're going!) by using map and compass together. The other group will start with a compass refresher, then go on to apply compass techniques in more advance situations on Low Intermediate walks - great if you've done Maps & Compasses before and want to remind yourself of what you know and take it further. These holidays are based at High Trenhouse in the Yorkshire Dales near Malham Tarn with plenty of tricky moorland and limestone features to practice on right on your doorstep. High Trenhouse offers many ensuite single rooms, and good working spaces for extra map work in the evenings - i.e when not enjoying a drink from the honesty bar or relaxing in the sauna or jacuzzi! Maps and compasses will be provided (or bring your own!)

Fuller detail Exmoor offers a wonderful variety of Intermediate walks with its changing landscapes from dramatic coastline to open moorland, wooded combes and hidden valleys. In June the moors will be vibrant with flowers and the sound of birds and insects, while autumn brings wonderful golden colour to Exmoor's oak woodlands, and you might hear the sound of rutting stags locking antlers. These two holidays with Chrissie are based at the friendly Lorna Doone Hotel In Porlock - a family-run hotel with ensuite twin rooms and plenty of ensuite singles, each named from the Lorna Doone story. Porlock traces its origins back to the 12th Century - a charming village with narrow streets, many interesting shops, an ancient parish church, and some lovely thatched buildings. From here we can walk across Porlock Bay and up onto the moors towards Minehead, taking the SW Coast Path to the top of Bossington Hill, or following the coast more closely to look down over wooded combes to the sea. In the other direction we can walk to tiny Culbone Church and beyond, or there are several circular walks - up steep sided Dunkery Hill for fabulous views from Dunkery Beacon, or via Horner Wood up to Nutscale reservoir. In the evening we'll eat in the hote's excellent dining room. Taunton is the nearest station with frequent fast direct trains from London & Birmingham at good advance prices. We will arrange a 4pm shared taxi from the station (or a lift by Chrissie depending on numbers).

This is the 3rd WW holiday on Guernsey this year, enjoying the stunning views of Guernsey's coastal paths when the island is decked in its autumn colours. We will be based at the comfortable Saints Bay Hotel which is located just back from the cliffs of Icart Point. From here we will have immediate access to Guernsey's spectacular coastal path in each direction - with all that a 'coastal path' implies (stunning sea views, cliffs & coves, and more ups and downs than some Low Intermediate walks). We can reach other walks around the island by minibus or by public bus, and we'll take day trips by ferry to the fascinating smaller islands of Sark and Herm nearby (weather permitting). Guernsey can be reached by plane from several mainland airports, or by Condor ferry from Portsmouth, Poole, or Weymouth. The Saints Bay Hotel is a short taxi ride from both the airport and the port.

This is a superb introduction to trekking in Nepal among some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country. From the Hindu temples and maroon-robed Buddhist monks of Kathmandu we travel to Syabrubensi - the start of our trail up the Langtang Valley. The first few days are through varied wooded countryside, always in sight of snow-covered mountains and never far from the turquoise Langtang Khola in its deep gorge. There are monkeys in the bamboo and on the rocks, wild lilac and rhododendrons, orchids and mysterious birdsong. Climbing out above the tree line we then reach another country, wild and rocky, where weathered people of Tibetan descent herd yaks around Langtang Village. Prayer walls, and flags streaming in the wind, Lammergeiers wheeling overhead - life is hard here. Kyangjn Gompa further up the valley at 3800m is surrounded by the majesty of Langtang Ri and Langtang Lirung. Here we take a day off, or there's a chance to climb to Kyangjin Ri at 4350m for spectacular 360 degree views. Returning to Lama Hotel and Syabru we now make our way steadily to Gosainkund, a mystical high lake sacred to Hindus, where we spend a second altitude acclimatising day before crossing Laurabina Pass at 4610m. From here we descend the ridge through the lovely Helambu region: first more trees - hemlocks and rhododendron, sandier, broader paths, then deciduous trees, Lipodendrons and marijuana, terraced fields, butterflies until finally we reach the end of the trek at Sundarijal and return to Kathmandu for our last 2 nights. (3 star hotels in Kathmandu: tea houses on trek).

Trekking in Nepal is a once-in-a-lifetime experience but it also takes us well outside our normal comfort zone: altitude, long ascents and descents which you need to be fit for with plenty of stamina; mainly cold water washing and limited showers until we regain Kathmandu; and the food while trekking is simple, and based mainly on lentils, rice, potatoes, and pancakes.

This last Whitby break of the year will allow us to explore the stunning North Yorkshire coast and nearby Yorkshire Moors when the autum colours will be at their best. Sneaton Castle centre is situated in extensive grounds above the picturesque seaside resort and ancient harbour of Whitby. This refurbished 19th century castle offers plenty of comfortable ensuite single rooms and good home-cooked food. From here we can explore the fabulous Cleveland coast - heading south past the beautiful ancient ruins of Whitby Abbey to Robin Hoods Bay, or north to Runswick Bay and the attractive old fishing port of Staithes. Inland we can reach the heather-clad North York Moors - Heartbeat country - to enjoy a fab circuit on Fylingdales Moor, or the 'Glaisdale Round' if we feel up for it! On the last morning we can even take the steam train to Goathland station (used to film Harry Potter's 'Hogsmead') and walk to Mallyan Spout waterfall. This holiday is based in the small market town of Rothbury at the comfortable Coquetvale Hotel where there are many ensuite single rooms available (Ensuite single supplement £10 a night). Rothbury is a picturesque small town beside the River Coquet with plenty of small shops and tea shops we can investigate after walking. From Garleigh Moor and Simonside we hope to have spectacular views to the sea at Druridge Bay and north to the purple Cheviot Hills. The valley scenery is special in a different way: rolling green fields dotted with sheep as we walk to the pretty hamlets of Holystone and Sharpeton; views over the meandering River Coquet as we look back down the valley; or the extensive woods and grounds of Cragside full of exotic trees where we might see red squirrels. The whole of Coquetdale is steeped in history - from ancient settlements and Stone Age rock art on Garleigh Moor, to tranquil Lady's Well pool at Holystone. This holiday is priced on a part board basis, including breakfast & packed lunches. In the evening we can eat in the excellent Italian restaurant at the hotel, or sample other good eating places nearby (Evening meals not included - from £12). Regular buses from Morpeth stop closeby. This weekend break is based on the beautiful Dorset coast, staying at the Cromwell House Hotel in Lulworth Cove to walk the striking coastal paths nearby. On the Saturday we can take the path from the village heading to Durdle Door for a wonderful walk along the cliffs, maybe descending to the beach at Durdle Door if we feel energetic. On Sunday we could either walk in the other direction from the Cove along another lovely stretch of coast path, or do a walk along Purbeck ridge which would give us extensive views across both the coast and the Dorset heathlands, finishing with a spectacular view of the Corfe Castle ruins. (These coastal walks are all well within the Low Intermediate grade, but may involve more 'up' and 'down' than some other low intermediate destinations!) If you can arrive by 1pm on Friday, there can be another shorter walk inland from Lulworth Cove in the afternoon. Lulworth Cove lies between Swanage and Weymouth, and is a short taxi ride from Wool station on the Waterloo to Weymouth line. Cromwell House is a comfortable 2 star hotel 200m and on this November weekend everyone can have an ensuite single room (Single supplement £10 a night).

The Autumn colours will be at their best for this November photography break based at Glaramara Centre in Borrowdale, the Lake District, where everyone can have a standard single room without paying a supplement! Our photography holidays allow you to improve the quality of your photographs, walking in a small group, surrounded by beautiful scenery with plenty of time to stop & experiment. Borrowdale is sometimes called the most beautiful valley in England. If you're happy with your camera, there'll be space to learn more about photography techniques. Both Marian and Sharron will have plenty of suggestions about how to get the most from your camera, the light and the landscape. If you haven't done much photography before or have a camera that you're still getting used to - whether it's an SLR, a digital camera, or an older 'point & shoot' - you'll love their encouraging style that inspires confidence and a willingness to experiment, always with great results. 'Landscape photography' covers the full range, from majestic views to focusing on just a beautiful rock or fern. The two guides will be able to specialise in different kinds of camera depending on the needs of the group (e.g digital v. SLR). Camera & film are not included; and if your camera is digital please bring your charger, spare memory cards, and your camera instructions. Marian will have her laptop available for looking at digital photos in the evening - more laptops are welcome!

This short break with Linda offers 3 days of wonderful Intermediate walks in Borrowdale when the autumn colour will be at its best: ridge walks and waterfalls, craggy fells with fabulous views and golden leaves - and we'll be well placed to enjoy it all at the Glaramara Centre near Seatoller. Though its décor is simple and like a hostel in some respects, Glaramara has mainly single rooms without a supplement, serves good food, and is fantastic value in every way. Its bar and large comfy lounge both have open log fires, and the general atmosphere is warm and friendly. From here we can access all the best intermediate Borrowdale walks - tranquil Dock Tarn or the splendid High Spy ridge; Glaramara might prove irresistible across the valley, or if the weather keeps us low, there are plenty of lovely low rambles through Borrowdale to enjoy. (Bring your camera if you want to pick up tips from the photographers in the evening. The Autumn Photography holiday is staying at Glaramara at the same time: WW has the whole of Glaramara Centre over these dates!)

Here's a chance to welcome in the New Year in good company! There'll be fabulous winter walks of all grades from Gentle to High Intermediate - 4 waks to choose from each day. We'll be based at Glenthorne Guest House - taking over the whole place for ourselves, with everyone pitching in to help with the veg chopping, washing up, or laying up - whatever you feel happy with. The food will be mostly organic vegetarian. And of course, there'll be lots of fun in the evening, playing games, and welcoming in the New Year with a party - so bring your favourite music to dance to and any alcohol you might want (the Co-op in the village also has an off-licence). Glenthorne offers plenty of standard and ensuite single rooms, ensuite doubles, and ensuite twins. The guest house also has a comfortable lounge, an airy conservatory, and a separate TV/table tennis room.

Arrangements

UK holidays - Arrival & Departure details

The first date given for a holiday is the day you arrive. We don't walk on that day, except perhaps for an evening stroll to get to know each other. You can usually get into your room from 2pm. Your guide will arrive by 5pm and will leave a message at reception to say where she'll be at that time. Dinner is generally at 7pm - so do tell us if you think you will be late in case we can hold your meal. The walks start at a convenient time after breakfast each day. Their length depends on the grade and sometimes we might change a walk because of the weather. The walk on the last day is shorter, and we are generally back by 2pm for trains from 3pm. However, on weekend breaks and treks - especially if intermediate and high level - we are generally not back till 3pm for trains from 4pm. When booking a weekend or a trek, please tell us if you will need to leave earlier than this.

Accommodation

The accommodation we book for the holidays varies hugely - from charming small hotels and inns, to moderately priced guesthouses, and ideally-located hostels and mountain refuges. The prices are based on you sharing a room with another member of the group unless it says otherwise. Singles with or without a supplement are often available if you book early. All supplements are given as a figure per night. In hostels and refuges you mostly sleep in bunk beds sharing a dormitory with other members of the group. Frequent Walker Miles!

It's very gratifying how many women return for more WalkingWomen holidays after their first experience. So we've introduced 'Frequent Walker Miles' as a way of giving something back to you. This means that if you come on 3 holidays in a calendar year, we'll take £20 pounds off the 3rd one - and again off the 6th!

Trekking

If 'trekking' to you means days of slogging with the kitchen sink on your back - forget it! We use the words 'Trekking' or 'Trek' to refer to holidays that involve walking to a new place most days, allowing us to get off the beaten track and reach more remote places like the stunning Western Lakes or a high Alpine valley. We transport the luggage by taxi or porters wherever possible, and on trips where this is not possible we clarify in the holiday description the number of days you will carry extra gear. A trekking day can sometimes be a little longer than a day walk of the same grade and there isn't the same flexibility to take a day off as with other holidays, so please choose the grade with special care. The reward is the satisfaction of having walked there and seeing a new valley come into view. If a UK trek is not circular we arrange transport back to the starting point or nearest station for free or for a shared charge (see the holiday description & travel directions).

Taking time out - other things to do

Whether you walk each day is up to you; it's only tricky if you want to take time out on a trekking day! There are lots of other things to do - either for a day off or after walking. You might also want to walk on your own for a day, or sit under a tree to read, paint, or do nothing!

We confirm the booking after you have paid the deposit. If you would like to see travel directions before you book, just email us for a copy.

Dogs

WalkingWomen has been set up to cater for the needs and safety of women who want to walk. Assistance dogs (e.g 'blind' dog, 'hearing' dog etc) are permitted on all WW holidays and at all UK accommodations we use. Non-assistance dogs are allowed at some accommodations we use (see below), but will only be allowed to join walks if they are well behaved around people and sheep, are under control at all times, and are not likely to be experienced as threatening due to their size or breed. If the guide feels that your dog is endangering or annoying other women, you will be asked to make other arrangements even if it means that you cannot join the walk. For this reason, please consider carefully whether your dog is sufficiently well behaved and non-threatening to others before bringing him or her on a holiday - and please let us know beforehand.

Dogs are only permitted at the hotels we use in: Great Langdale, Derwent Water, and Lulworth Cove. Dogs are also exceptionally allowed at Glenthorne when we take the whole guest house for ourselves - e.g Christmas. (Accommodations often charge extra for cleaning).

If you are frightened of or allergic to dogs, please avoid holidays at the above locations since even if there is no dog ' in the group', there may be other dogs staying at the hotel. If you are very allergic to dogs, please let us know in case there is an Assistance dog as part of the group.

Foreign Holidays - Flights, ATOL, transfers…

On most WW foreign holidays your guide will meet you at your departure airport if she is flying on the same flight, or look for her as you come into the Arrivals hall at your destination. We include the transfer to your accommodation on practically all foreign holidays. Please see your holiday details sheet for the time of this transfer and/or the flights that it meets.

The cost of your flight is not included in any 2010 holiday price. There simply hasn't been time for Sue Donovan, the new owner of WalkingWomen, to obtain an ATOL licence in her own name before the brochure went to print. We can, however, buy your flight on our agent's ATOL licence for all those holidays which were previously ATOL protected in the WW programme (Nepal, South Africa, La Gomera, & Crete), and for any other scheduled or charter flights that may be an option on some holidays. Our agent for long haul destinations (i.e Nepal & South Africa) usually only requests a deposit for your flight until 10 weeks before departure.

For holidays involving budget airlines we are happy to buy your flight for you on your card if you do not have the Internet access or the time to buy it yourself. If your payment card requires a security code for online purchases, we will need to contact you back for these details in order to get the payment put though.

More and more countries are requiring advance passenger information (called API or APIS) as an anti-terrorism measure. Some are starting to introduce this retrospectively for flights already purchased. So for all flight purchases we now ask for your passport number + its issue date, expiry date, & place of issue; your nationality; and your date of birth. It is because of the increased admin involved in buying flights today that we have started to charge a flight booking fee of £10 - please accept our apologies.

If you buy your own flight...

WalkingWomen arranges the airport transfer to your destination on most foreign holidays to keep arrangements simple and affordable. If you are buying your own flight, please first check your holiday information sheet to see which flight/s will suit this transfer in each direction, (or for details of our transfer time). Your guide will usually be travelling on this flight or she will meet you as you come through from Baggage Reclaim at your destination. WalkingWomen is not responsible for your transfer if you arrive at a different time or on a different flight than the one we have detailed. Most of our holidays are based at some distance from the airport, and it will often be difficult or expensive for you to arrange your own transfer. Please contact the WW office before buying a different flight from the one/s given on your Holiday Information Sheet.

Insurance essential on foreign holidays

If you book a foreign holiday with WalkingWomen it is essential that you have sickness and injury insurance. Insurance against your having to cancel is highly recommended on ALL holidays.

Columbus will also take an additional 10% off is you say you're booking with WalkingWomen. Age Concern (0845 600 3348) is the most competitive insurance we've found if you are over 65 years. If you hear of a direct insurance company offering better rates, please do let us know!

Insurance on UK holidays?

If you are taken ill at the last minute and cannot come on holiday, you might also be very glad to have cancellation insurance in place. Many companies offer very competitive rates for short breaks, or for an annual travel insurance policy that covers all your holidays over the year. What is included in our prices

• Every holiday/break price is inclusive of: the walks and guides; any activities that are specified as part of the break; and guides for special interest holidays. There are walks arranged for every day apart from the day you arrive, and shorter on the last day. You can walk every day or take time out whenever you feel like it (this is not possible on a trekking day when we have a new destination to reach).

• Unless we say otherwise prices include: all luggage transport on trekking holidays; transport to walks or across a lake on a ferry if it's a necessary part of the walk for that day; transfer from a foreign airport to the holiday venue, usually at a particular time to meet certain flights.

• All accommodation is included for the number of nights specified, plus full or part board per number of nights (see individual holidays in the Calendar). Where full board is not provided it is generally because you will get a more economic deal with part board. Full board means that all breakfast, packed lunch, & evening meals are included. If the holiday is 'part board' please check the holiday details for clarification. In B&Bs/hotels the price is based on you sharing a room, with a friend or another woman from the walking group. In youth hostels and refuges it is based on you sharing a dormitory. Very exceptionally in alpine refuges we might have to share with individuals not from the group. The price and availability of single and ensuite supplements is given in the holiday details as a figure per night (see the page number referred to in the Calendar).

Each holiday/break clearly states what is included in the cost of the holiday. We are not able to cover costs for any other activity you may choose to do besides walking eg. bike hire, cream teas, refreshments apart from those provided as part or full board, entrance fees unless specified as included, public or private transport separate from that used during a walk.
