30 Apr-5 May - Pembrokeshire
Coast Path Part 1 |

Wales |
|
| 5 nights full board:
£405 |
A holiday that covers the first
quarter of the fabulous Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Amroth to Pembroke
Castle...
Fuller detail
This holiday covers the first quarter of
the Pembrokeshire coast path from its start at Amroth to Pembroke Castle. While
containing plenty of 'ups' and 'downs' as we walk classic Pembrokeshire
stretches of stunning sea cliffs, this first section is gentler overall as it
also includes the long bays of Tenby, Freshwater East and Angle. As such it
makes a good introduction to the Path although the days are still up to 13
miles in length. For this holiday we will be based at East Trewent Farm which
women really enjoyed last year. Located midpoint along our route, the farm
offers a mix of ensuite and standard twin and single rooms. Each day we will
use the coastal bus or taxi to reach our next starting point. The nearest
station is at Lamphey and a lift will be possible from Lamphey station to the
farm if arranged in advance. Guided by Jo J.

low level
Luggage is transported for you - you carry only a day pack.
Fuller detail
The famous Coast to Coast walk was devised
by Wainwright to link the Irish Sea and the North Sea. It is a route rather
than an official long distance path, walking 190 miles from St Bees Head
through the Lake District, and across the Pennines, Yorkshire Dales, and North
York Moors to Robin Hood's Bay on the east coast. It is one of Britain's most
popular long distance walks and undoubtedly includes some of the finest upland
scenery in England. On this holiday with Marian we will complete the walk in 14
days, with daily distances ranging from 8 miles on two of the higher Lake
District days to as many as 23 miles as we near
the end of our journey (average: 14 miles a
day). The amount of daily ascent is greatest early on - ranging from 550m-750m
a day as we traverse the Lakeland fells and Pennines, then increasing again
briefly as we cross the North York Moors with a great sense of achievement to
reach Robin Hood's Bay. 5 of the nights are spent in youth hostel dormitories
and include evening meals. The other 10 are spent in 2-4 bedded rooms in small
hotels and B&Bs where evening meals are not included (from £12).
Packed lunches and luggage transport are included throughout - you carry a day
pack only. This holiday is best reached by public transport - see below.

Long Distance grade explained...
Long Distance-
10-15 miles, average 400m up/down
Long distance footpaths offer wonderful
long days following ancient footpaths and bridleways steeped in history - old
drovers roads or trails used by travelling folk. As such they often follow
valleys or ridges to minimise the 'up' and 'down' involved, tending to aim for
the next saddle rather than the next peak. They generally involve between 10-15
miles a day, with only a little more height gain than Low Intermediate walks.
(Long distance coastal paths tend to have more 'ups' and 'downs' adding up to
nearer 500m on some days - i.e. like a longer version of Intermediate walks).
We tell you the average distance and ascent in each of their holiday
descriptions. They are all fabulous journeys that will reward you with a great
sense of achievement.
Their main
requirement is stamina and staying power - and boots that are comfortable! Try
and fit in some 10 mile walks beforehand as preparation.
